craned.

outside
the night is spilling stars
over a life
i almost missed
reaching
for the past

every one of them
already gone
when it left

i have been looking up
at a rearview
my neck learned one angle
and kept it

the body follows the head
and i walked into this life
sideways

shoulder blades braced
against a room
that stopped coming for me
years ago

turn around
is not a small instruction
for a spine trained
to a single direction

what's behind me is finished
and lit
and still the easier thing to see

so i stay craned

and life goes on
behind me
setting the table
for a woman
still checking the road
